I think it will be ultimately helpful if you can enable the FILESTREAM configuration in the SQL Server instances in order to achieve better file read/write operations in the cloud. Its similar somehow to the other thread posted by one of the users regarding "Nas" and a way to create shared storage to enable the same scenario. Is it possible? Will it be on the roadmap somehow soon? What is the best alternative you'd recommend otherwise in your current setup?
